Poquoson Parks and Recreation Sponsors Youth Athletic Leagues annually, for Fall Youth Soccer, Spring Youth Soccer, youth volleyball leagues, and Winter Youth Basketball League, and various Field Hockey Leagues Periodically during the calendar year

Players MUST REGISTER by the deadline to be guaranteed a spot for team placement.
Players who sign up late are not guaranteed placement & will be put on a waiting list until a spot is available.
A late fee of $15.00 per child will be charged after November 18, 2016.
All players will be assigned teams through a placement and evaluation process. Attendance at this evaluation program is critical.  Parents will be notified of the evaluation times following registration.
Volunteer coaches are needed for the league in all age divisions.  Coaches may only have 1 assistant per team.
Players will be taken first come, first paid, as they register. Participation numbers are limited to the number of coaches available, and available gym space.   The season runs from mid-December thru early March.
Games begin in early January. Practices begin in early December following evaluations and team placement.
Coaches will set practice times for teams.  Practice nights and time requests  will not be considered for team placement. Requests for specific practice times and/or coaches will not be honored.
No special request for team placements are accepted- (carpools, friends, coaches, etc.)

Age Divisions within the League:
HOT SHOTS: Ages 6, 7 & 8 co-ed not yet 9 as of March 1, 2017. (Lowered hoops)   
    (Minimum age –must be 6 by 3/1/17; no younger players accepted)
Ages 9 & 10 not yet 11 as of March 1, 2017   Boys & Girls  
Ages 11 & 12 not yet 13 as of March 1, 2017 Boys & Girls
Ages 13 & 14 not yet 15 as of March 1, 2017 Boys & Girls     
Ages 15 thru those in 12th grade at Poquoson High School (with high school playing eligibility remaining)

*JV and Varsity High School basketball players are not permitted to play in the recreation basketball league.
To play above your respective age division: Players may move up an age division only at the request of the    parent. To play above your appropriate age group, an Age Waiver must be completed at the time of registration. You may only play above your age group by one year.  There are no exceptions to this rule. No player may play below their respective age division-unless there are special accommodations requested.

In order to conduct  each age division, a minimum number of participants must enroll on time. Each age division is not guaranteed and holding divisions is based on enrollment numbers. No call-in registration is accepted.  No registration is complete until the registration form is received and fee is paid in full. All registrations are taken at Poquoson Community Recreation. Registration forms and procedures are available within this guide,  on our website, or at the Community Recreation Office.   Cost per player: $70, non-resident: $80  ($5 discount for siblings).
No refunds for Basketball will be granted for any reason after December 1,  2016.
Note: Late registration after December 3 will not be available.

Hoop It Up Basketball Ages 4-6

Together parent and child will work to learn passing, dribbling, and shooting skills. This program is not a league experience but an interactive skills program designed to teach the skills of basketball using fun games. Each player receives a junior basketball as part of the program. Open to Boys and Girls. Each player needs a parent present at each session ready to participate. Must be 4 by start of program.

Baseball Hitters & Fielders Clinic

Get game ready in the pre-season by attending these Sunday clinics designed to improve hitting and fundamental fielding skills.

Location: Poquoson High School Gym
Attend each session for $20 per session or attend all 3 for $50. Non-residents additional $10

Softball Clinic

This indoor clinic will provide basic instruction to enhance your softball game in the off season. Together the Poquoson High School Coaching Staff  with former and current college players will bring you this quality instruction to improve your game. This clinic is perfect for the player who is just beginning  and will include basic hitting fundamentals, and off season workout techniques to improve your on field game. This clinic will cover concepts essential to every player, regardless of skill or experience level.
Ages 9 and Up Dates: Saturday, December 3 and 10

Youth Tennis Lessons

Ages 7 and up.             Boys & Girls
Learn the basics of the game of tennis. You’ll learn to serve, forehand, body position, and footwork.  Lessons run  Saturdays for 6 weeks.
Dates: October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19  &  December 3
Location: PHS Tennis Courts.   
Cost:  $65 Residents  Non-Residents $75
Time: 8-9am Beginners          9-10am Intermediate
(Must have enough participants for each session.)
 Instructor: Anthony Coccimiglio    
Students must bring their own racquet. Wear
comfortable play clothes & tennis shoes.  Sundays will be the designated rain make-up day if necessary.
 Each group lesson is limited to 12 kids.
Minimum of 6 needed.
