Messick Point is located just inside the Back River inlet on a small peninsula at the southern end of Poquoson. The city-owned property at Messick Point is approximately 14 acres and includes about 300 feet of vacant waterfront on Back River.
This property is serviced by public sewer, water and electric facilities. The Army Corps of Engineers has recently dredged a 6-foot channel in Front Cove, an inlet leading to Back River and the Chesapeake Bay. The area in front of the bulkhead and boat launching ramp area has also been dredged. The City is currently in the process of installing improved boat ramps, an auto and trailer parking lot, a commercial boat pier and public rest rooms.
Development Opportunity
The Messick Point property is ideal for water dependent retail, instructional, recreation or other uses. A mixed-use development proposal that would take advantage of the site’s prime waterfront location, and expand market opportunities for surrounding seafood processors and wholesalers is invited from interested parties.
