Prior to the creation of Poquoson’s current Comprehensive Plan, a public survey was developed by the Community Participation Team (CPT), a group of citizens appointed by City Council, along with the Poquoson Planning Commission and City staff. The Team developed a self-administered four page survey with a variety of questions on land use and community development, based on public feedback that the CPT received through public outreach efforts, including comment cards and a Comprehensive Plan Public Meeting held at Poquoson High School.
The survey was approved by the Poquoson Planning Commission and mailed to all Poquoson households beginning in June of 2017. Over 1,300 surveys were received and tallied before the CPT’s deadline to present their results to the Planning Commission on July 17, 2017. The results of this survey were subsequently incorporated into the City of Poquoson’s 2018-2038 Comprehensive Plan, which was approved in October of 2018.
