Grass Clippings/Leaves

While mulching or composting is recommended, grass clippings and leaves may also be disposed of by taking them to the VPPSA Compost Facility located at 145 Goodwin Neck Road in York County at no charge.

Fall Leaf Program - Leaves must be in clear plastic bags, 0.5 to 0.9 mils thick, no drawstrings. Place bags in back of curb by 7 a.m. on the day of pickup. This program runs from November through the end of February; bags are picked up every other Monday.

Composting

The VPPSA Regional Composting Facility located at the York County Waste Management Center is open to Poquoson residents for the disposal of certain yard waste materials. These materials include:
  • Brush
  • Firewood
  • Grass clippings
  • Gum balls
  • Leaves
  • Pine straw
  • Woody waste up to 24 inches in diameter and 10 feet long

No stumps, rocks, stones, bricks, soil, construction waste or treated wood are accepted.

In order to use the facility, residents must either present their driver’s license showing a current Poquoson address or a paid City sewer bill. The facility’s phone number is 757-898-5012 and it is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. There is no charge.
